Climbing at Smith Rock

This past weekend we headed 3 hours south east of Portland to Smith Rock State Park for a weekend of rock climbing and camping. When we set out Friday morning, we drove through blizzard-like conditions on Mt. Hood and continued to see snow on the ground all way to Smith. We were blessed with sunshine about 30 minutes after we pulled into the parking lot and set out for the day.

For rest of the weekend, the weather was gorgeous and we climbed plenty of routes to leave us bruised, bloodied, and sun burnt.

It was a great weekend!

For those interested, both Dan and I top roped our first 5.10b on JT's Route. Woohoo! We also climbed Morning Glory Wall, Cinnamon Slab area, Bunny Face, and Phoenix Buttress.

Cape Lookout

Things have been pretty quiet in the Selleck house, until now! We were able to go camping for the first time this year, finally. Our destination was Cape Lookout, just south of Tillamook, Oregon. With a beautiful forecast, we set out to hike from the campground to the end of Cape Lookout to watch some whales. Along for the adventure was our new friend Toby, and our rent-a-dog, Herschel. Our next door neighbor was kind enough to part with her 97 pound black lab for a few days. Thanks Patty!

All in all, it was a great 10 mile hike with a good friend and an awesome dog. Needless to say, we were all wiped out when we arrived back home on Saturday evening.

Next weekend, rock climbing at Smith Rock!
