On June 7th, 2009, Dan and I celebrated our first anniversary. For the special occasion, we decided to head to California since Dan had never been south of the Northern Redwoods. A few years back, I visited my sister in law in Santa Cruz and fell in love with the area. We packed up the car and headed to Big Sur at 4am on Thursday.
We made great time to the campsite and were able set up camp before dusk. The drive to the site was creepy and fun because we had to drive up a one lane road that was full of blind corners and steep drop offs. From the highest point, we guessed we were looking over the Pacific Ocean at around 3,000 feet. That's a long way to go...
On Friday we drove to Monterrey and played around at the aquarium after saying hi to Bubba Gump's. Saturday was spent at Point Lobos State Reserve where we hiked about 8 miles and saw all sorts of cool wildlife, including deer, elk, lizards, frogs, snakes, squirrels, sea lions, harbor seals, cormorants, fish, and lots of chipmunks.
Overall, it was an amazing trip and we had a great time and enjoyed the scenery and the quiet. We can't wait to go back to California!
Oh, and here are all the pictures we took :)
