Sauvie Island

It might not look like much, but the Sauvie Island hike left me waking up to sore hips and legs the next morning. A nice easy 6 mile hike out and back took us along the beach of the Columbia River up to the Warrior Rock Lighthouse (pictures coming soon on my flickr account). Dan and I got a bit of a late start in the day, had no idea where we were going, and didn't even know where the trail head was.

Once we got going though, we saw the nest of a Bald Eagle, very cool, and some other water fowl that were too far away for us to identify. Also, there were a handfull of nanner slugs on the trail that were the size of my hand. They're nasty looking suckers, but very cool to come across.

Hiking the trail was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday with my husband in the outdoors. We'll defenitly be back.

Camping and Hiking

Dan and I had a great weekend hiking and camping with friends on the coast. We had an awesome Saturday night at the Cape Lookout campsite eating smores and staying warm by the campfire.

On Sunday, we hiked to the summit of Saddle Mountain. A trail that was 2 miles long and an elevation gain of 1,630 ft. Yes, I had to catch my breath a couple of times. But wow, what an amazing view at the top!

Silver Falls State Park

Dan and I caught a break in the typical rainy spring Portland weather this Sunday and headed for a hike through our favorite state park, Silver Falls. There are over 12 waterfalls on this 7 mile hike, and it's also home to Oregon's tallest waterfall, South Falls at 177ft.

Most of the day, we were hiking in cloudy weather, but as we approached this fall (I don't remember which one it was, maybe Winter Falls?) the sun popped out and lit up the water. It was so cool and I was excited I had my camera out. Man, I can't wait to do more hiking this summer.
