Our New Home in California

As fate would have it, we've found ourselves picking up our home and moving once again. Dan and I counted how many times we've moved since we've been together, and the total came to 7 times in the past 5 years. Wow. That's a lot of boxes to move.

This summer, Dan was blessed with a temporary job working as a user interface designer. However, once the gig was up, he had a tough time finding work in Portland. Getting interviews didn't seem to be an issue, recruiters were calling him multiple times a week, but nothing was happening. Eventually, he decided to start applying for dream jobs, designing video games.

One thing led to another and his dreams came true. Dan is now working for a gaming company designing video games. And he loves it. The company is located in downtown Oakland, California (across the bay from San Francisco), and we've moved to a small suburb called Walnut Creek.

Moving this time required a purge of a lot of our furniture and our belongings, but it's always nice to lighten the load every so often. Instead of a UHaul, we rented a small Pod and didn't have to deal with all the hassle of driving a truck 12 hours from Portland to central California.

Jane handled the move extremely well and slept just about the whole way in the car. We had the car packed so full that Parker's spot was on the floor by my feet.

On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we said goodbye to Portland and hit the road. We arrived safely on Monday afternoon, found an apartment we liked, then checked into the hotel. All of our stuff was in transit and since we decided it'd be better to sleep in a bed than in an empty apartment on the floor. Thanksgiving was a memorable even this year, even though we were sad to not be able to spend it with family, we did spend it together as our new little family.

Over the past week, we have visited Santa Cruz and Jane saw the Pacific Ocean for the first time. The Pod was unloaded and we are slowly unpacking, but quickly settling in to our new place. Most of all, we're thankful for the support we've received from all of our family and friends through this transition.
All our love,
The Sellecks
